“Companion”

7.6

So, uh… this is what happens when the sex robots become sentient and revolt. We’ve been due this film in the new age A.I. sci-fi genre… and this didn’t disappoint! A funny, insightful, dread-inducing thrill ride that’s “Promising Young Woman” meets “The Terminator.” A bloody good time at the theater! I can’t give Sophie Thatcher enough credit in this role, as she takes over and doesn’t relinquish her on-screen domination until the credits are done rolling! Bravo!

“Taking Care”

8.2

This was flat out amazing. Bravo to Seth Rogen, of all people. And his wonderful wife Lauren Miller Rogen. Dementia/Alzheimer’s is such a terrible disease for all involved. This film nails the tone and weight and execution here, delivering a perfectly balanced, incredibly impactful film. Short, sweet, to the point, and highly recommended as well worth your time from this movie reviewer (and former Nurse’s Aide who cared for many who suffered from Dementia/Alzheimer’s).

“Flight Risk”

6.3

This movie was insulting. If you think Marky Mark’s accent is bad, you just wait…

There were moments where things almost took off, but then they go right back to “oh no… I totally didn’t see that coming” (in the most sarcastic tone imaginable.) Just… why did I feel so talked down to by this dumb of a movie? It pained me to make it to the end. Then they try to do the M. Night fake-out ending 2-3 times as a last sharp stick in the eye… Just, no. This is the backwards hat of movies.

“The Room Next Door”

6.8

Still on the fence if I would be honored or appalled if a friend roped me into this situation…

Both Tilda and Julianne rock it, but the movie is such a strange execution of a touchy subject that it’s extremely difficult to make it approachable. They do their best, though. Trying to find meaning in a tough spot. There are indeed moments of beauty in the darkness here, but you have to really focus in. It’s easy to get lost in the ethical dilemmas or in one of the weird sidetracks into a rambling tirade about climate change. Intriguing…
