“Warfare”

Take your blood pressure meds before going in for this one… It’s a rough watch. If you enjoy sensory overload, this will be up your alley. Front to back, it’s an assault on the senses with small blips of relief where they almost develop a sense of kinship before being bombarded again. You’ll need a cooldown afterwards. That being said, it’s a solid war flick.

“Drop”

I was highly skeptical of this one going in. Unsure if it would be too thin a premise to support the runtime, leaving me loathing my choice of movie for the week. It pleasantly surprised me! The relationship hit me as genuine, the setup worked remarkably well to establish believability, and the tension could be cut with a knife almost the entire perfectly balanced runtime. Really well done!

“The Friend”

8.4

WAY better than I expected. The dog has such personality, and steals every scene. Naomi Watts is stellar. This one emits a palpable warmth from beginning to end like a hug from a loved one or your favorite winter blanket in front of a fireplace. Let it wash over you as you laugh and cry your way to the credits rolling.

“Screamboat”

6.9

Was “Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey” too high brow for you? Well, have I got the movie for YOU!

The rat is genuinely terrifying for a number of reasons… the story has the narrative weight of “Sharknado”… and the thing devolves into madness from the get-go. If you don’t mind losing a few brain cells and/or want to root for the downfall of Disney intellectual property now entering the public domain – this is your cinematic universe.

“Y2K”

So, Limp Bizkit’s here for some reason… and I didn’t hate it.

Pure nostalgia trying to cover for a weird mix of “21 and Over” / “Project X” meets “Small Soldiers.” It’s a wild combination, but works remarkably well, mostly because of the dedication of the cast to committing to the bit.
