“Boogie Nights”

8.2

The infamous tale of the rise and fall of Dirk Diggler. From the heights of the adult film industry to the lows of unspeakable acts in the shopping center parking lot… a tale as old as time. More legendary Hollywood stars than any Oceans film, and a rocking soundtrack, this classic film really fires on all cylinders… unlike Dirk’s Little Dirk after he develops a drug problem and goes off the rails. Lace up your roller skates, and get ready for a wild 2 hour ride…

“Valley Girl (1983)”

6.7

Like, a totally rad movie. One of Nicholas Cage’s first (and best) roles of his career. Just enough lunacy to fit the character who’s a bit of an outsider, who gets the girl in the end. Amazing 80’s soundtrack. Hanging out at the mall. Neon color galore. Very 80’s. Somewhat of a John Hughes type love story, checking all of the character and storyline boxes as it moves along.

“The Favourite”

7.0
Crank up the harpsichord, and get ready for this “Downton Abbey” on steroids period piece about a love triangle in politics. Definitely Oscar bait, but still a decent 2 hour soap opera for the gilded ages. The things you randomly wander into during Oscar season. 🚨Warning: nudity prevalent throughout. 🚨

“Fun Size”

7.6
A surprisingly cute tale of Halloween hijinks and hoodwinks, wrapped up in multiple age old coming-of-age stories. For what should have been a pretty by the numbers story, I found myself caught off guard by the laughs along the way. Strong acting and chemistry from the cast really added life to the film.

“Julie and Julia”

7.8

As a fellow blogger, I could relate to the intimidation of a blank screen. It’s always a joy to witness a story about someone finding a passion to devote even a portion of their life to. An added bonus to see it impact the lives of others. Watching these parallel tales unfold, trials and tribulations abound, to emerge triumphant and changed as people, is a beautifully inspiring effect a film can have. Never can go wrong with Amy Adams.
