“Sator”

7.1

I’m torn on this one… it’s terrible, but also kind of brilliant in its own way.

The cinematography is on par with “The Revenant,” and really adds to the horror storytelling that’s attempted. The acting falls a little flat, and the story is about as original as “Paranormal Activity 37,” but the finale is still pretty solid. Again, there were so many well-crafted aspects of the film, I have a hard time condemning it to the do not watch list. It was just not entirely clear crap or genius. I say give it a chance if you’re looking for a religious/mythological horror thriller.

As usual, don’t trust grandma or anyone walking around the woods at night soaked in blood wearing a deer skull mask.

“Tammy and the T Rex”

7.7

You may be wondering how this one earned this score. Well, it’s unabashedly itself. Unafraid to be one of the most ridiculous hour and a half strips of film in Hollywood history. A love story between a girl and her dinosaur.

Shout-out to “The Last Drive-In” for yet another great introduction to a historic film.

You’ll spend quite a bit of the runtime going, “Hey, I know that person!” Pedro from “Napolean Dynamite, ” Denise Richards, Paul Walker, Bernie from “Weekend at Bernie’s.” An absolutely ridiculous plot, and yet, it works wonderfully. Bravo to one of the all-time great b movies!

“The Call”

6.8

Tobin Bell and Lin Shay. Jigsaw and Insidious lady. The perfect horror couple we never knew we needed. Take a seat and get ready to get uncomfortable as these terror twins tag team taking down a group of terrorizing teenagers.

A fairly original script executed very well. Solid jump scares. The typical twists and turns along the way to keep you guessing pretty much up until the end. Solid flick.

“Shaun of the Dead”

7.9

Brilliant!

I’d like to think this is how I would handle the zombie apocalypse.

The perfect balance of horror and comedy. Great special effects, great acting, a great script. And it all ends at the pub. In the vein of other Simon Peg masterpieces, such as “At World’s End,” a legendary addition to zombie canon.
